The Mauna Kea access road reopened to the public at the Visitor Information Station Wednesday afternoon.

The Mauna Kea access road reopened to the public at the Visitor Information Station Wednesday afternoon.

The road had been closed because of icy conditions at the summit.

Deep moisture near the Big Island has shifted east with the upper low, leaving mainly trade showers across windward and southeast sections, National Weather Service forecasters said. Forecast models show the mid-levels drying out and stabilizing as the upper low departs, and additional frozen/freezing precipitation is not expected.
